“Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Michael Cera,” ink on bristol, 10” x 8”, 2013.
From “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” of course. The comics dominated my high school years in a big, bad way, and the movie adaptation did not disappoint - which, of course, is something worth celebrating in its own right. But Winstead and Cera also do a great job of grounding the film in something resembling realism while everything, stylistically speaking, begins to fly off the rails.
That said, this composition is sort of weird. But it’s cute, right? Ugh. Send me a message if you’re sick of hearts already (there are more coming - sorry), or if you have any suggestions for next week’s film portrait!
